The Premise: Physics Not Philosophy

Horn speakers do something nothing else can. The compression driver coupled to an exponential horn moves air with an efficiency that makes music physical, immediate, present. This isn't subjective - it's physics.

The tradeoff has always been bass. Horns that extend to 40Hz require cabinets the size of rooms. Most stop at 80Hz and hope you won't notice.

The Spucko Kungus pairs vintage horns and alnico drivers with Bag End subwoofers - flat to 8Hz without digital processing. The crossover uses Western Electric capacitors from the 1930s - 1940s and wire from pre-war 1940s. Each component is tested, matched, and documented.

The result: 115dB sensitivity with true full-range extension.

Components

Each pair is built around vintage parts. When the supply is exhausted, production ends.

1930s - 1940s
Western Electric capacitors
Paper-in-oil capacitors from American telephony's golden age. Individually tested, reformed, and matched .
1940s
Western Electric wire
Pre-war 1940s. 99.95% pure copper with cotton insulation. Drawn slowly to create longer grain boundaries. Museum-grade provenance documentation included.
1960s
YL Acoustic horns and drivers
From Japanese broadcast studios. Exponential profiles paired with original Alnico compression drivers.
2020s
Bag End subwoofers
Flat to 8Hz without digital processing. Analog feedback maintains phase alignment with the horns.

Technical Notes

Amplification

115dB sensitivity means a 2 - watt SET amplifier plays to concert levels. The system also handles 100 watts without compression. Most owners use 845, 300B, 2A3, or 45 tubes in the 2 - 8 watt range.

Room requirements

Works in rooms from 250 to 1,500+ square feet. I calibrate each installation to the space.

Service

Every vintage component is tested and certified before installation. I maintain backup inventory. The 10-year warranty covers everything. After that, lifetime service at cost.

Resale

Each pair is serialized with comprehensive documentation. I maintain a registry and waiting list. If you sell, I'll help find a buyer. Western Electric components have appreciated 15 - 20% annually for the past decade.
